ENROL NOWMeet Karen!
Karen is Claire's Assistant Tutor,Ā and here's a little bit about her..!
"My love of French began at school. I took my āOā Level a year early, and then attained an A grade at āAā level at Itchen College. I passed my Certificate for French in the Office and Certificate for Secretarial Linguists at the Southampton College of Higher Education (now the Solent University). When I left, I was determined to find a job using French and was lucky enough to find one with a local Freight Forwarding Agency, where I worked for 8 years, writing, and speaking French daily.Ā The director herself was French and many French students came for work experience.
When my nephew was small, I took him to a toddler group one morning a week at Portswood Primary School. While I was there, I noticed that the school was advertising for parents to come and help the children to read.Ā I wasnāt a parent, but I thought it would be fun!Ā So I enquired and started volunteering there one morning a week, helping the Year 2ās with their reading.Ā Iād been doing this for 8 years when my friend mentioned that her daughter had started learning French at Foxhills. She said that her daughterās French tutor had suddenly left, and that the Licensee,Ā Claire, was looking for a new tutor.
Given my love of French and children, my friend encouraged me to apply, so I did! I met withĀ ClaireĀ and I was thrilled when she chose me to be her new tutor.Ā I did all my training and started teaching the La Jolie Ronde classes in February 2020. It was actually a very strange time as only a few weeks later we all went into lockdown.Ā We suddenly had to think on our feet, learning Zoom and adapting all the classes.
We taught on Zoom for the rest of that year, and the whole of the following school year, resuming face-to-face classes in September 2021. Although quite a challenge at the time, it was in fact a good exercise as itās enabled us to now teach online classes, too!
I really enjoy working with children and teaching French to them is quite a bonus. I find it very rewarding and love seeing their progress.Ā They respond well to the La Jolie Ronde method which is very well-rounded and most importantly, fun!"
